What is Sneak Peek Sunday? Each week, I will share a peek of a new item coming to my shop. A tidbit of crafty news or upcoming event. A project I’m in the throes of or a progress update of my neverending studio re-organization. It will be a behind-the-scenes access to Catshy Crafts and a way to learn more about me, a mom of two young girls and wife to an indie game developer who runs a creative business out of her home. I hope you enjoy.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS
Making felt flowers are my favorite things to do! Cutting the felt. Rolling them up to create little blossoms. Then hand-sewing them so that they stay beautiful forever.
Whenever I cut into a new felt sheet, I use the scraps to make a flower. Sometimes roses, sometime loopy, sometimes fringed. Most recently, I’ve been mixing colors of flowers. (I’m becoming more daring!) To me each flower is a mini-sculpture of felt. They have have so much texture and touchability. Sometimes I like to pile them up in baskets or arrange prettily in a tray. For no other reason. I love to give them away to friends and family and to my special customers so it makes sense that I am constantly making them.
HOW A HOOP ART WAS BORN
When I am creating a new hoop design, sometimes I have a picture in my head of how I want the hoop to look. Sometimes it comes from rearranging the pieces on my canvas. Adding or subtracting pieces until they look right. A bit of trial and error. A bit of play. This is how my most recent hoop was born. I chose a few of my favorite flowers that I’ve made recently and started to play.
I am really excited about this hoop. Inspired by the flowers wreaths and laurels that seem to be everywhere these days – from stationery to clip art to logos to prints – I created my own version in beautiful dimensional felt! Add in a felt monogram and this may be my favorite hoop I’ve designed.
I call it the bed of roses monogram hoop. Wouldn’t you love to snuggle up to these felt flowers?
The bed of roses monogram hoop art will be ready for the shop next week. I want to take some more photographs and make a few more samples before she is ready for the full reveal. I can’t wait to share them with you!
