From Debbie Downer to Miracle Magnet: Introducing the Grateful Heart Collection

I have a confession to make.

I am a recovering Debbie downer. I never looked for the silver lining. I saw half-empty glasses all around me. Probably from a combination of anxiety and depression dating back to my tween years, I tended to look on the not-so-bright side. The dark side. Imagining the worst and expecting it to happen.

I was on the constant look out for the disapproving look or snub or veiled insult. And boy, did I find them!  A frown on a stranger’s face meant she didn’t like me.  If someone didn’t say hi, it meant they hated me.

All this negativity did not help. It kept me sheltered from hurt but also cut off opportunities that could have given me great joy! Like friendships or work opportunities or just a fun time out with friends.

Fast-forward 3 decades

After a painful divorce and entire re-evaluation of my life (hello mid-life crisis!), everything I thought I knew came into question. To me, ending a 14-year marriage and having to start my life over as a single mama was a nightmare come true!

It wasn’t until after I grieved the loss of a marriage and my life as a stay-at-home mom and wife (with the help of therapy, lots of tears and dozens and dozens of self-help books) that I began to notice that I had a lot to be grateful for.

And for the first time in my life, I started to clean up my negativity and automatic negative thoughts. And that’s when my life began to transform.

Count your blessings (even the ones that don’t seem like blessings)

First, I began to literally count my blessings. Spelling them out. Journaling about the good things in my life – even if on that particular day I could only summon up the obvious. like the fact that I had my two beautiful girls in my life or that I had a roof over my head.

Even the hardships could be mined for blessings. The end of an unhappy marriage led to happier life (eventually). And the chance to rebuild our family in a healthier way.

Then, after consistently appreciating the things I already had, I began to *expect* more good things to happen to me.

Now I look for the miracle. The good. The bright side. The love. And oh boy, they are showing up!

I feel lighter than I ever have. I have more hope than I ever have. I feel more *myself* than I ever have. And the world seems to have opened up!

Of course, I still have off days. Fears. Resistance. But those days are just that. Off days. They aren’t in alignment with who I am.

And after a pint of gelato or a Netflix binge or if I am really good, a yoga class or an evening run, I return to love. My perception returns to love and the world reflects that love back to me.

And that is what my new collection, Grateful Heart, means to me. Being grateful for what you have. Because I believe what you focus on will grow! Having gratitude will raise your vibration – no more Debbie downer vibes for me – and attract even more things to be grateful for.

Shine Bright, Little Unicorn!

Unicorns are rare and magical creatures.

What better animal to put on your little girl’s wall.

These magical unicorns with flowing locks (in three gorgeous colors: lilac, pink and glittery turquoise) remind your little one to let her inner light sparkle! The horn has a metallic finish and hand-stitched details. The rose is hand-cut and hand-stitched, adding extra beauty to Miss Unicorn.

Meditate on the cuteness: New Line of Hoop Art

A deer, fox and hedgehog walk into a bar. No, make that a meditation room. Wait, what?

I am so excited to introduce a new line of felt embroidery hoop art inspired by my latest “hobby” a.k.a. de-stressing practice a.k.a. sanity saver…. meditation.

Earlier this summer, I signed up for a 4-day class in transcendental meditation. My new practice has given me peace and serenity and a way to take a break during my hectic summer days.

I already had some “sleepy” animals (fox and bunny) (and clouds) in my Etsy shop. But the more I looked at them, I thought to myself, these creatures look so serene. Kinda like how I feel when I meditate!

So I decided to add a few more animals to my menagerie (hello dear! hiya hedgie!), but instead of seeing them as sleepy, I re-imagined them as meditating zen-loving beings.

I “debuted” them at my pop-up shop at West Elm Seattle, but now I am offering them in my Etsy shop!

For local folks, they will be available at The Handmade Showroom in downtown Seattle later this month.

And… they even got a mention in today’s Sunday Seattle Times!

Hope you like them!

she believed she could so she did : how I became BRIKA’s featured maker

Funny story. About 4 years ago, I applied for BRIKA – a curated marketplace that I thought was full of amazing handmade art and goods. I loved making hoop art and playing with felt and creating wall art, but was always taken aback when someone would like it and actually buy one!

Surprisingly, I was accepted to BRIKA. I couldn’t quite believe that I was chosen and didn’t quite believe I was good enough to be there. I didn’t quite believe in myself. So, I never sent in my photos or information and quietly let this opportunity pass.

Fast forward to this spring. I sent my application in a second time, and lo and behold, I got accepted once again. I still had my doubts but that fearful voice was a little quieter. That voice of not being good enough was being drowned out by one that said “yes you are good enough”.

So many things had changed since the last time I was accepted. The biggest change was my divorce after 15 years of marriage. Suddenly, my divorce made my business so much more vital to me – more than financially, but as a creative outlet that sustained me through this transformation. This business gave me a focus. Grounded me. It made me grow. It brings me joy and today I want to share that joy with you.

So it is with pride and joy that I announce that……

Today I am a featured maker on BRIKA – a curated marketplace of 400+ makers of well-crafted goods. I am so honored to be chosen to showcase my embroidered felt hoop art. And proud of myself for finally showing up for this newest opportunity.

To go along with my 8-piece collection, I created an exclusive design just for BRIKA. With aqua, sky blue, lilac and a touch of butter yellow, this floral 3D hoop art makes me happy. Happy to have continued making art. Happy to have said yes. Happy to create art for your home.

Thanks so much for being a part of my life. I am creating art for you! I hope you like it.

And I hope that if you are doubting yourself today, I hope that you can release some of those doubts and go after what you are desiring.
